Pangasinan town mayor, 2 others killed in ambush

MAYOR Ernesto Balolong Jr. of Urbiztondo town and two others were killed after they were ambushed in Pangasinan Saturday morning.

Balolong, accompanied by a police escort, was conducting an inspection on his project on Rizal St. in Barangay Poblacion when he was fired upon by unidentified gunmen onboard a van at 9:15 a.m.

The town mayor was pronounced dead on arrival Eljera Hospital in San Carlos City due to multiple gunshot wounds.

PO1 Eliseo Ulanday, Balolong's police escort, and a bystander identified as Edmund Meneses was also declared dead on arrival in another hospital.

The two civilians who were wounded in the ambush are now in stable condition, radio report said.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the ambush. (Sunnex)
