Jerome S. Galunan Jr.

DUE to the extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine, the Games and Amusement Board (GAB) has withdrawn the derby permit it had issued to the World Slasher Cup (WSC) International Derby which was scheduled May 18-24,2020 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

GAB Chairman Abraham Kahlil Mitra confirmed this through a messenger.

He added that the leadership of the WSC will be complying with all existing laws and may tentatively move the event in the third week of June or probably January of 2021.

Likewise, Mitra also appealed to everyone who is in a cockfighting business to stay at home and farms.

“Sa ngayon ang sabong ay napapag-initan ng gobyerno dahil sa mga iilan na matigas ang ulo na nag tutupada [Currently, cockfighting has been heated by our government because of some hard headed individuals who initiate its illegal conduct],” the GAB Chairman said.

“Wag naman po ninyo idamay ang buong industriya kasi marami po nakanandal dito bilang hanap buhay [Please don’t implicate the whole industry because many rely on this as their source of livelihood],” Mitra added.

Meanwhile, authorities in Negros Occidental recently apprehended number of people who engaged in these illegal activities - wherein several were identified to be 4Ps and SAP beneficiaries, as well as elected officials.
