Silay-native swimmer breaks Palaro records

SILAY City-native Alexie Kouzenye Cabayaran, 12, has broken 3 records in elementary swimming event of the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

Cabayaran set a new record of 2:16.72 in the Girls 12 & under 200 LC Meter Freestyle Elementary Girls to surpass the previous record of National Capital Region’s (NCR) Imee Joyce Saavedra of 2:16.72 set on May 6, 2014.

Central Luzon’s Triza Haileyana Tabamo settled for silver with a clock of 2:20.54 while Liaa Margarette Amoguis of host-Davao Region took the bronze with 2:17.45.

A new record of 1:09.11 was also set by Cabayaran in the Girls 12 & under 100 LC Meter Backstroke Elementary Girls and erased the previous record of 1:09.65 registered by Dorothy Grace Hong of NCR in 2006.

Finishing behind her are Trixie Ortiguera of Central Luzon (1:12.720) and Ishaelle Mae Villa of Calabarzon (1:12.05).

In Day 2, the Negrense tanker continues to haul medals for Western Visayas with another huge performance as she broke the 4-year record in Girls 12 & under 100 LC Meter Freestyle Elementary Girls. The 12-year-old Cabayaran erased the former record of 1:02.28 set in May 2015 by NCR’s Jules Katherine Ong with the new clock of 1:02.25.

On the other hand, Central Luzon’s Triza Haileyana Tabamo (1:04.14) and Trixie Ortiguera (1:06.18) settled for silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Cabayaran alongside Dee Vianne Catedrilla, Kriztel Rhey Napallatan and Aliah Hannah Lopez clocked 5:02.83 to finish bronze in the Girls 12 & under 400 LC Meter Medley Elementary Girls Relay.

Central Luzon took the gold medal with the time of 4:59.89 followed by NCR with 5:00.32.
