Young taekwondo champ chalks up golden month, earns Palaro berth

A YOUNG taekwondo practitioner from Bacolod City continued to make her mark in the sport, racking up a strong of gold medals and earning a slot in the 2019 Palarong Pambansa.

Jamie Hannah Agaloos opened her golden month by taking the individual poomsae competition at the Smart National Carlos Palanca Junior Taekwondo Championships in Manila from February 8 to 11, where she also won a bronze in mixed pair.

Her berth to the Palaro was earned via a gold medal in the junior individual event at the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association from February 17 to 23 in Roxas City, Capiz. Her junior team also took silver.

Agaloos immediately followed this up with another individual junior gold and a junior team silver at the Batang Pinoy Taekwondo Event at Robinson's Pavia on February 24 to March 2.

She capped her amazing month with yet another junior individual gold medal and a junior tea silver at the Negros Occidental Private Schools Athletic Association (NOPSCEAA) at Ayala Malls in Bacolod City from March 1 to 6.

Agaloos, who trains with the Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen, has been a consistent national and international medalist for the past few years.

She bagged the golds at the 2017 NOPSCEAA and Palarong Pambansa, the latter where she was also named most valuable player.

As a member of the national team, she has brought home medals from international poomsae competitions.

The latest were two bronze medals in the individual and mixed pair events of the 2018 World Taekwondo Poomsea Championships in Taiwan. (PR)
