MANILA -- Members of the National Union of Students of the Philippines (NUSP) expressed opposition in the budget cut in state universities and colleges (SUCs) during the budget deliberations inside the halls of Congress Tuesday.

When session was suspended, NUSP president Einstein Recedes shouted inside the session hall challenging members of the legislative body to disallow the P400 million budget cut for SUCs.

“Kailangan na gawin ito dahil ang mga kongresista ay nagbibingi-bingihan. Matagal nang sinisgaw ng mga kabataan naghihingalo na ang ang ating edukasyon pero tila wala pa rin silang posisyon,” Recedes told reporters.

Security immediately escorted the around 15 rallyists outside the Batasan Pambansa. Lawmakers who are also opposing the budget cuts stepped out of the session hall to show support to the students.

Deliberations on the general principles on the P1.645-trillion budget proposal of the Palace pushed through after the protest. (Kathrina Alvarez/Sunnex)
