A three-time winner of the Cebu Pop Festival, Troy R. Ciar started out as a proofreader at Sun.Star Daily (now Sun.Star Cebu).

In the early 1990s, he became a contributing writer for its Lifestyle section. Next was a stint at Fest Magazine, the paper’s former supplementary magazine.

Troy tried out the police and business beats but eventually committed to Sun.Star Superbalita [Cebu] just as it was launched. He was appointed entertainment editor in 2006.
