3 injured in Halsema crash

THREE farmers cheated death but sustained multiple injuries after their vehicle fell into a 100-meter deep ravine along Halsema Highway on Tuesday evening, September 3.

Markly Bantian (27), Emerson Bao-idian (30) and Edgar Kitongan (40), all residents of Sitio Saclalan, Amgaleyguey, Buguias in Benguet were immediately rescued by personnel of Buguias Municipal Police Station, responders from the local government unit, Barangay Buyucaoan, volunteers and Bureau of Fire Protection-Buguias after crashing their vehicle at Sitio Bayoyo, Gambang, Bakun in Benguet.

Police investigation disclosed the vehicle came from Abatan, Buguias and was on their way home when it incurred electrical defect causing the head light to switch off.

Due to zero visibility, the driver failed to maneuver and swerved to the right and fell down the ravine.

The victims were initially brought to Northern Benguet District Hispital and referred to Luis Hora Regional Hospital in Abatan, Bauko in Mt. Province for further medical treatment.

Police meanwhile said Bantian was discharged from the hospital 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 4 while Bao-idan and Kitongan are still confined at the hospital and are now in stable condition.
