BAGUIO City Representative Mark Go is set to call for a land summit to study and review how government land should be used.

Go said all government agencies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Agricultural, Department of the Interior and Local Government, including the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and the City Government of Baguio will be invited in the aim to formulate laws.

“What we want to do first is to conduct a land summit for us to study the total land situation of the city, make an inventory of the various laws and proclamations related to lands in Baguio and from there, we will craft a bill that would address this permanently,” he said.

Go added various concerns on lands were brought to his attention like the case of the slaughterhouse where the government gave the area to the city to be used for livestock purposes only.

“That purpose given by the National Government to the city is not anymore the sole purpose of the use of that land. Some of our constituents have been residents of that area, which is why we need to know its total land area, how many are occupied and how many are used livestock and if there is a need to come up with a law that will segregate certain portions of that through an executive order by the President or by a presidential proclamation, or it can be by a bill that I can file and pass in Congress,” he said.

Go identified land problems in Irisan, the segregation of 13 barangays within the Camp John Hay area, Camp Allen, BGH Compound, and Teachers Camp, among other problems in the city.

“I want to be sure that when we craft a bill regarding this matter, it would give a permanent fix to this problem. We need to look into this holistically and come out with a permanent solution to this and once we have identified this, we will come out with a timeline on how we will address this one by one,” he said.
