BAGUIO City Representative Mark Go was appointed chairman of the committee on higher and technical education Monday, August 5.

The Baguio congressman, a former assistant professor at the University of the Philippines–Baguio, is a second term legislator who has authored various laws on the promotion of higher and technical education which include the Republic Act (RA) 10931 or Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act that institutionalizes free tertiary education for students of state universities and colleges, and RA 11192 which establishes the Cordillera State Institute of Technical Education.

Go won his second term in Congress earlier this year on a platform that advocates the increase of subsidies for scholarship grants available for students of private higher educational institutions, and the promotion of technical education of entrepreneurship and relevant trade.

The lawmaker said his first act as head of the committee is to conduct an assessment of the current state of tertiary and technical education in the country as framework in pushing for improved quality and accessibility.

“It is indeed a great privilege to serve not only the people of Baguio, but the entire nation in this far-reaching capacity. I am honored by the trust,” Go said. (SunStar Baguio)
