Benguet bids farewell to Fongwan Sr.

LEGACY of the late Benguet Congressman Nestor Bagtang Fongwan Sr. were remembered by the people of Benguet.

Before his burial Saturday, December 28, at his residence at Guidayan, La Trinidad, Benguet, the late solon was brought to the municipal gym and the provincial capitol on Friday for a necrological service and public viewing.

Former officials in La Trinidad recalled the late solon’s contributions that led to the development and success of the capital town and Benguet province.

Eulogies were made by provincial, municipal employees, and former Benguet officials led by former Vice Governor Nelson Dangwa, former Governor Crescencio Pacalso, former La Trinidad mayors Artemio Galwan and Edna Tabanda.

Thirteen towns of Benguet meanwhile read resolution of condolences followed by the provincial resolution of the Provincial Board members.

His son, Benguet Board member and La Trinidad Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr. extended gratitude to all that expressed condolences to their family, acknowledged policemen who guide the late congressman and his family on their way back home in Benguet and thanked all people who have worked for his burial.

In an interview, he recalled their father as a very strict man but fought well for the welfare of the people adding there is only one Fongwan Sr.

“Adu ti mangibagbaga nga tuladem ni amam, hanku kaya nga tuladen ni ama. Isuna na laeng ti maymaysa nga Nestor Bagtang Fongwan nga mabalin agserbi ditoy Benguet. Inted na amin ti oras ken biyag ti panagserbi ti publiko. Awan ti makatumbas kini ama,” Fongwan Jr. added.

The Benguet official added he learned a lot from his father describing him as a public servant with principle where the late Solon would not gamble the public interest over his own interest.

Fongwan Sr. died on December 18 and is survived by his wife Priscilla and five children.

The solon died due to acute respiratory failure, underlying cause upper gastrointestinal bleeding peptic ulcer renal cell cancer with mestasis.
