Benguet renews call for peace

CANDIDATES in the Benguet province marched to ensure the continuity of honest, safe and peaceful upcoming May 2019 elections.

From Benguet State University to the Provincial Capitol in La Trinidad, Benguet Provincial Police Office (PPO) director Lyndon Mencio said close to 200 participated in the unity walk participated by Benguet PPO personnel, Armed Forces of the Philippines, provincial local government unit, other political candidates, different non-government offices and religious sector.

After, candidates together recited the integrity pledge, promising not to employ any form of violence, force, threat that may impede and impair the free exercise of people’s rights of suffrage, ensuring the prompt and disclosure of their campaign related expenses and pledge not to offer or give bribes.

Commission on Elections in La Trinidad meanwhile released an official list of designated common poster areas that running candidates must follow.

In the Benguet capital town, designated areas are available within the 16 barangays namely: In front of Alapang Warehouse, Alno-Pangablan Road Junction, Junction going to Gulon and Riverside in Ambiong, Benguet-Viscaya Road and Lamut Road Junction in Beckel, Balili beside barangay hall, barangay Betag in the road leading to barangay Hall, Bineng opposite of Bineng Warehouse, barangay Cruz along Ninoy Aquino National Highway, For Lubas the Road Junction leading to Lubas Elementary School, barangay Pico waiting shed, Puguis Across Police Sub-station in Longlong, for Shilan across barangay hall, Road Junction leading to barangay hall for Tawang and for Wangal beside barangay hall.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
