Benguet sends donation to Taal victims

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- The Provincial Government is set to donate P500,000 while the municipality of La Trinidad has given at least P200,000 worth of goods to Batangas province, the hardest-hit during the recent Taal Volcano eruption.

During Monday’s Provincial Board of Benguet session on January 27, a P500,000 financial aid was earmarked for Batangas.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Rose Marie Melecio disclosed the financial assistance will be sourced from the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management fund.

La Trinidad earlier initiated a donation drive with the community heeding to the call for donations.

The La Trinidad Relief Operations Team visited Tuy, Lian and Nasugbu in Batangas where relief goods comprised of hygiene kits, clothes, food packs, and vegetables were distributed to 2,709 consisting of nearly 8,000 individuals.

Aside from local and provincial government efforts, donation drive for Taal was earlier conducted by vegetable farmers and traders at Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center and La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post.
