Consultation set for PDA at park

Maria Elena Catajan

NAYSAYERS are asked to join the public hearing set for the law, banning public display of affection at the Children’s Park.

Despite a divided public opinion on the proposed law, Councilor Joel Alangsab said he is standing by his proposal and does not mind the backlash he is getting now.

The law prohibits kissing, petting, necking, and lying down together within the premises of Children’s Park at Burnham aiming to protect children from seeing lewd acts at the park.

Alangsab said the law is not for ordinary display of affection but is directed to intimate acts that is not fit to be seen by children.

The new law defines kissing as the act of touching someone with your lips to show affection or sexual desire, while petting refers to the act of sexually caressing and touching someone affectionately.

Necking is defined as the act of kissing and embracing passionately and lying down together in a scandalous manner - it means to sleep together with amorous or sexual connotations.

Alangsab said he does not mind the criticism and welcomes all to attend the hearing to be set for the proposed law.

As of press time, the measure has been referred to the committee on peace and order headed by Councilor Francisco Ortega VI.
