THE Cordillera Administration Region continues to record a spike in coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, as three Baguio residents tested positive for the virus.

In a report by the Baguio City Public Information Office on Monday, a 50-year-old male from New Lucban Interior; an 83-year-old male from Balacbac, Sto. Tomas Proper; and a 37-year-old female from Lower Pinget were the latest cases recorded, bringing the number of active cases in the city to 60.

Over the weekend, six new cases were reported August 2 in the Summer Capital, five of whom are contacts of a previous case.

The patients are a 37-year-old female from Ferguson Road, a 49-year-old, 70-year-old and 60-year-old females, and 78-year-old and 45-year-old males, all from Queen of Peace.

On August 1, four cases were added to the city's toll: a 27-year-old male from Upper P. Burgos; a 36-year-old male from Bakakeng Central, a 56-year-old male from Pucsusan and a 23-year-old male from Kias.

Baguio's Covid-19 cases as of Monday afternoon, August 3, reached 118 with 55 recoveries.

In Apayao, Luna town Mayor Josephine Bangsil confirmed that a police officer assigned at the Apayao Police Provincial Office (PPO) tested positive for coronavirus on August 2.

The mayor immediately placed under temporary lockdown until further notice Camp Allan in Barangay San Francisco to contain the spread of the virus and complete the contact tracing of all the personnel of Apayao PPO who came into contact with the Covid-19 case.

Transactions and movements of people within the premises of Camp Allan are limited only to those assigned to perform contact tracing and other and other Covid-19 related movements and transactions.

Colonel Byron Tegui-in, Apayao PPO provincial director, meanwhile, ordered police personnel assigned at the provincial headquarters, particularly those who had close contacts with the new patient, to stay at the camp while contact tracing is being done and while the swab test results are still pending.

In Abra, Governor Joy Bernos, in a social media post, confirmed on Sunday, August 3, that the province recorded 16 Covid-19 cases on August 2.

Six are from the town of Lacub and one each in the municipalities of Bangued, Pidigan, and Peñarrubia, while three are employees of Abra Provincial Hospital (APH), two locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Bucay, a frontliner from Villaviciosa, and one working in the Governor's Office.

Bernos suspended all work at the Governor's office, Administration Office and APH indefinitely.

As of 4 p.m. of August 3, the Department of Health-Cordillera recorded 129 active Covid-19 cases in the region. (SunStar Baguio/With a report from Philippine Information Agency-Cordillera)
