Ordinance provides cash aid for barangay volunteers

Lauren Alimondo

THE Municipal Council of Tuba in Benguet has approved an ordinance that institutionalizes P1,000 cash assistance for barangay volunteers.

Tuba Councilor Jerome Palaoag, author of the measure, said the ordinance seeks to recognize the hard work and service of the barangay workers and volunteers.

A financial assistance in the amount of P1,000 each will be extended to the barangay volunteers.

"It is also in response to the budgetary limitations of each barangay that bar them from providing additional financial aid to their workers," the ordinance states.

The ordinance covers all persons employed as volunteer health workers, nutrition scholars, Lupong Tagapamayapa members, tanod, and child development workers of the barangays in Tuba.

The Office of the Municipal Social Worker Development Officer (MSWDO) in coordination with the Office of the Municipal Mayor must plan the effective and efficient implementation of the ordinance.

Funding will be sourced from the regular budget of the MSWD or from any available funds of the town subject to usual government accounting rules and procedures.

The municipal ordinance was forwarded to the relevant committees of the Benguet Provincial Board for concurrence.
