Parking, rehab plans to merge

Maria Elena Catajan

THE city government is studying ways to achieve balance between parking requirements and the need to rehabilitate Burnham Park.

Councilor Mylen Yaranon is advocating open space at Burnham Park but is taking into consideration parking needs of the park.

"We have to maintain the open spaces in Burnham, and at the same time balance it with the parking requirements of the park. Take note, only parking requirements for the park, not for the whole CBD (central business district)," Yaranon said.

Full rehabilitation of Burnham Park is on top of the list of priorities with a P480 million funding from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority and the full backing of the Department of Tourism.

With the rehabilitation of the park comes the need to set up additional parking in the area in existing spaces now used for the same purpose.

"We are incorporating some concepts of the presentation by Mayor (Benjamin MAgalong) last Friday," Yaranon added.

Burnham Park’s transformation will be done in stages with areas staying open but with specific areas closed off for the meantime while work is ongoing.

The lady councilor added once plans are done, the public will be called for consultations.

"Then we will have an integrated and incorporated plan. Once done, mga two weeks, we will be ready for consultation," added Yaranon.

There are 63,243 vehicles in the city, including 22,870 motorcycles.
