Police: Holy week in Benguet generally peaceful

THE observance of Holy Week in the province of Benguet was generally peaceful, said the Benguet Provincial Police Office (BPPO).

“Very peaceful Holy Week. Police were deployed in all roads and tourist destinations with round-the-clock check of deployment conducted by officers from Benguet PPO and Police Regional Office–Cordillera (PRO- COR) inspectors,” BPPO Director Lyndon Mencio said.

In the municipality of Tuba, from April 18 to 21, six vehicular traffic accidents happened, resulting in damage to property and physical injury.

Three of the accidents happened along Marcos Highway and the three others in Kennon Road.

In Buguias town, police found human skeletal remains on Maundy Thursday, April 18.

The skeletal remains were found around 9:30 a.m. while the team working on the construction of the Buguias Public Market Building in Abatan were digging the soil.

The remains found had helmet and pair of combat shoes.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
