THE Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) in the Cordillera region called on government for the immediate realization of teachers’ right to decent salaries.

Janette Cawiding of ACT Baguio said teachers have long fought for this right but has fallen to deaf ears of the government.

Former Bayan Muna Party list representative Neri Colmenares explained, aside from the issue of profiling, another issue needing concern is the increase in the salaries of teachers.

“It is not wrong for ACT Teachers to ask for an increase in their salaries and the police have no reason to get mad at them, ACT Teachers are asking just for an increase in the salaries,” Colmenares said.

The ACT is pushing for higher pays for teachers and adjustments in the personnel economic relief allowance from P2,000 to P5,000.

“For the teachers, we are hoping that they would not be dismayed on what is happening because this is just a part of the plan for collective negotiations for the elections to harass representatives of society,” Colmenares added.

Earlier, the Teachers Dignity Coalition have welcomed the invitation of President Rodrigo Duterte for them to have a dialogue in relation to his promise to increase the salary of public school teachers.

Colmenares was in the city for a national convention of ACT at Teachers Camp.
