RETURN of students may be the last priority amidst the global pandemic.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong said a meeting with the academe is set to formulate guidelines on how to handle plans to resume classes in the future as he said an extension on the suspension of classes is imminent, noting the risk -- return students to campuses.

The city is in the thick of planning strategies for each sector of the community to be ready when the enhanced community quarantine is lifted.

City administrator Bonifacio dela Peña said if ever classes resume, it will be on a staggered basis.

Dela Peña said only the higher educational institutions will be allowed to finish their curriculums first and will be assessed to what needs will have to be dealt with first.

“Staggered basis ito, maybe ‘yung mga graduating muna ang mauna, sa college ito muna ha, then we will decide on the next moves,” dela Peña added.

Dela Peña said high school and elementary levels will not be allowed to return to school considering the risks of infection.

Magalong added the city is eyeing a modified community quarantine.

The chief executive said consultation with sectoral groups will be in sync with health experts for them to come up with guidelines for each sector.

On Tuesday, April 7, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the extension of the Luzon wide community quarantine to April 30 amid the continuing Covid–19 contagion.
