KABAYAN, Benguet -- Temporary measures along the Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya road are being put in place to prevent or minimize vehicles from falling off deep ravines.

Kabayan Municipal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Lieutenant Gilbert Anselmo said they have recommended for the installation of road barriers, streetlights and signages along the road in order to prevent future incidents of vehicles falling off ravines.

Last October 31, three passengers including two minors died on the spot while one survived after an asian utility vehicle (AUV) fell into an almost 800-meter deep ravine along Sitio Bogao, Adaoay in Kabayan.

Investigation showed that the driver allegedly fell asleep and lost control of the steering wheel which caused them to fall into the ravine.

Mayor Faustino Aquisan said after the incident, they have called the assistance of the First District Engineering Office to put road barriers on accident-prone areas.

Both Anselmo and Aquisan advised motorists to drive with caution when traversing Kabayan roads due to its terrain; always avoid drinking liquor and take a moment to rest when tired.
