BAGUIO City’s waste transfer facility along the dairy farm in Tuba, Benguet continues to draw flak from officials.

Benguet Board Member Nestor Fongwan Jr. in a resolution requested the Department of Agriculture (DA) to transfer the waste facility of the city within the dairy farm.

“The use of the site will go beyond April 1, 2019 and I moved to pass a resolution requesting the DA to move the waste transfer facility being utilized by Baguio City,” said Fongwan Jr.

Fongwan added the DA should relocate the site that will not affect the residents of Poblacion, Tuba and its nearby school located along Marcos Highway.

DA Secretary Emmanuel Piñol earlier approved the use of a 5,000 square meters portion within the 95 hectares dairy farm as a staging area following a letter from Mayor Mauricio Domogan in February addressed to Bureau of Animal Industry director Ronnie Domingo to address the garbage problem of the summer capital.

Board Member Florencio Bentrez has earlier manifested to shed light on the matter thru a joint consultation meeting held with Environmental Management Bureau prior to the petition from the Municipality of Tuba.

“If it is not possible to relocate, they should implement efficient operation of the transfer station,” said Bentrez.

Board Member Ruben Paoad also questioned the use of the area which is specified as an animal breeding station.
