Marvil: Re-evaluation on Bokawkan’s reliability sought

Marlon Marvil

THE City Council through Committee on Public Utilities, Transport and Traffic Legislation (PUTTL) chairperson Councilor Benny Bomogao has approved a resolution urgently requesting the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-District Engineering Office to conduct an investigation, feasibility study, review or re-evaluation of Bokawkan Road and come up with solutions to prevent or cushion the impact of vehicular accidents.

It can be recalled that this year alone, there were already two major accidents that occurred where wayward trucks damaged or destroyed more than twenty vehicles, causing death and injuries.

The resolution stated that Bokawkan Road is one of the busiest road in the city where heavy equipment vehicles and heavily-loaded trucks traverse. Likewise, it is also the site of constant accidents where trucks bump electric poles causing massive power outages.

Councilor Edgar Avila also had earlier proposed a measure directing the Traffic Management Bureau of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO-TMB) to implement the rerouting of heavily loaded six-wheeler and above cargo trucks along the said road to Magsaysay Road from 9 o’clock in the evening to 5 o’clock in the morning to prevent similar occurrence while the city is looking for permanent solution to the problem.

The said government agencies were requested to be present during the next regular session of the City Council on June 04, 2018.
