THREE athletes who recently bagged medals during the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games were recognized by the Municipality of Bokod in Benguet Province.

In a resolution, gold medalists Jerry Olsim (kickboxing) and Ariel Lee Lampacan (Muay Thai) together with Muay Thai silver medalist Jenelyn Olsim were given recognition for contributing to the country’s overall performance during the biennial meet.

The three were honored thru SB resolution nos. 167, 168, 169 and where given cash incentives worth P50,000 for gold medalists and P30,000 for silver medalists thru SB Resolution No. 178 series 2019.

The Olsim siblings are currently signed under Rich Franklin’s One Warrior Series (OWS), a subsidiary of One Championship, the largest mixed martial arts promotion in Asia.

Jenelyn currently holds a record of three wins and two losses where she fell against Caitlin McEwen in her last outing while Jerry is currently at 6 -1 having tasted his first defeat last year against Ryoji Kudo during OWS 8 in October.

The three were also feted by Benguet Province before 2019 ended in a simple ceremony held at the provincial capitol hosted by Governor Melchor Diclas.

They also received cash incentives and certificate of recognition during the flag ceremony.

Diclas lauded the athletes for giving honor to the country and the whole province, saying the provincial government seeks to strengthen support for the athletes with the completion of sports facilities.

Dean Mark Monang, Benguet sports coordinator, added in lieu of the provincial ordinance on sports incentives, gold medalists received P8,000, P5,000 for silver medalists, and P3,000 for bronze medalists. (With a report from Lauren Alimondo)
