CORDILLERA Administrative Region (CAR) made a huge splash with 39 golds, 39 silvers and 25 bronze medals en route to a decent fifth place finish in the recently concluded Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) 2019 National Games in Davao.

The region jumped two places higher from 7th place after earning only 12 golds, 28 silvers, and 33 borze medals in last year's meet held in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

Composed of student athletes from Baguio Central University, Kings College of the Philippines, University of Baguio, and the University of the Cordilleras, the region had its hands full by winning bulk of its gold medals in boxing, weightlifting, and taekwondo.

UB bagged 13 gold medals and one in athletics in the youth division and added one gold in the seniors category courtesy of boxing while UC chipped in three in weightlifting, two in taekwondo, and one each in boxing and baseball.

Kings College meanwhile lorded the weightlifting contest bagging eight gold medals in the weeklong competition while BCU one silver and two bronze medals.

UB’s gold medalists in taekwondo are Adrian Paul Yadao, Stephen Tomothy Sales, Alexander Gabriel Ogoy, Arwyn Karl Wagtingan, Bagriel Ivan Inacay, Reza Rahmani, Lei Ramon, Aezra Indra Liporada, Kamille Calaycay, Paige Elisha Antonio and Xaphrine Paijhe Rivera.

Clyde Wendell Montiflor, meanwhile, bagged the gold in the 400 meter-dash while Suleiman Abdulrahmani Jr. topped the boxing contest in the light heavy weight division.

UC’s Whinny Bayawon and Troy Mencio Jr. won the gold in taekwondo in their respective weight class while Eunice Angwani grabbed gold medals in 69 kilograms snatch, 69kg Clean & Jerk and 69kg Final.

KCP’s George Pile (77kgs), Marcos Stevenson (85kgs), and Carmilyn Maoting (58 kgs) bagged three gold medals each in weightlifting for CAR.

Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) bagged the overall championship with 212 gold, 146 silver, and 97 bronze medals while Central Visayas ranked second place in the overall medal tally with 139 gold, 128 silver, and 80 bronze medals.

Host Davao came in third with 70 gold, 104 silver, and 112 bronze medals with Region 12 (Soccsksargen) harvesting 44 gold, 34 silver, and 87 bronze medals to land in fourth place.
