DESPITE being differently abled, para athletes from the Summer Capital continue to bring honor to the city.

Baguio para athletes were recently honored by the City Council after winning medals during the recently concluded Philspada Para National Games (Philspada PNG).

On a move by Councilor Art Allad-iw, adopted by the entire local council, a commendation has been made for Baguio PWD’s, coach Rex Felix and playing coach Agustina Bantiloc for bagging 10 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals during the Philspada PNG.

Leading the gold medal harvest is powerlifter Allan Campos who took home three gold medals and one silver where he also competed in the athletics event.

Jeremiah Tundagui added two gold medals and a bronze in athletics with bowler Jaime Mangiga adding two more gold medals in the ten pin bowling event.

Other gold medalists include Marc Gwyn Florez (athletics), John Joseph Magpantay (athletics), Agustin Kitan (powerlifting), Romeo Tayawa (powerlifting), and Agustina Bantiloc (powerlifting).

Medalists who were also honored by the council include Victoria Ello, Giovanni Ola, Jackson Limmayog, April Dawn Mendoza, Jeremiah Tundagui, Jolina Tundagui, Armando Gaw, and Carlos Gamboc.

Allad-iw said Philspada PNG aims to identify new core of athletes for possible inclusion in national teams for future participation in international competitions, like ASEAN Para Games, Asia Youth Para Games, and the World Para Games and Paralympics.

“As part of the inclusive program of the government, our PWD athletes should be ensured support by the City Government for future national, regional and international Paralympic games as they, too, can bring again pride and honor to the city and the country.”

The Philippine Sports Commission, through the Philippine Sports Association for the Differently Abled National Paralympic Commission (Philspada-NPC), in coordination with the Department of Education launched the 2018 Philspada PNG.
