Geje driven to climb back in ONE

DRIVEN by his will to bounce back from a loss in his last outing, Geje Eustaquio hopes to cash in on his experience against a ONE Championship debutante.

The former flyweight world champion from renowned Team Lakay returns to the ONE Circle when he takes on South Korean Kim Kyu Sung in one of the featured bouts of the “Enter the Dragon” card tonight at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

This will be Eustaquio’s first appearance since losing the world title to Adriano Moraes in January.

Eustaquio believes his approach to climb back to the top of the ONE Championship flyweight mountain is simple – continue to improve and defeat every opponent in front of him.

However, Geje knows the execution of that plan will be far from easy, but he is determined to put himself in the hunt for glory when he faces Kim who will make his ONE debut.

Kim himself is not lacking in ability who trains with the famed Evolve Fight Team, and is now training with some of the best martial artists in the world in Singapore.

Even if the World Grand Prix is not his destination after his clash with Kim, the Filipino icon still has a lot riding on his return to action.

Eustaquio added the bout against Kim could be his first step on his journey back to world title contention, and like every one of his matches, it will give him the chance to make his countrymen proud.

“It’s an honor to hold the Philippine flag and represent my country especially on the global stage of ONE,” he says.

Shinya Aoki will be defending his ONE Lightweight World Championship against Christian Lee in the main event with former UFC fighter Sage Northcutt also making his debut in Asia’s largest MMA promotions.

Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, said during the kick off press conference in Singapore the promotion is not here to sell fights but to build heroes who ignite the world with hope, strength, dreams, and inspiration.

“We want to inspire the world to dream more, do more, and be more in life. I see superstar potential in everybody. Our athletes for me are partners in each other’s success. These are my brothers and sisters and people who I will be friends with for the rest of my life. Their success is my success. I want to be able to help them in any way,” Sityodtong added.
