Martes adds another, archers scores 2 gold

ATHLETICS proved to be one of Baguio’s top medal earner contributing five gold medals this early in the ongoing Philippine National Games (PNG) being held in Cebu.

After winning the first medal in the PNG for Baguio City on opening day, Cristabel Martes added another gold medal by topping the 5,000 meter run while Sandi Menchi Abaha, who clinched the bronze medal in the 10,000 meter run, surprised the field by winning the silver.

Gaudencio Gonzales, Baguio City’s sports coordinator said as of 12 noon of May 22, the Summer Capital has already won nine gold medals, including nine silver and 11 bronze medals.

Aside from the five gold medals, athletics also contributed six silver and five bronze medals.

In archery, Loren Chloe Balaoing hit her mark in the junior Olympic round as it bagged the gold medal while James Seg-ed also took home the gold in the same event in the boys’ category.

Adding a silver medal in archery is Clenard Hidalgo while Angelo Calalo and Brette Leean Hongitan scored a bronze each in the cadet boys and girls Olympic round respectively. (Roderick Osis)
