1 killed, 24 injured in vehicle collision

A WOMAN was killed while 24 others, including five policemen, were injured in a head-on collision between a Mazda Bongo truck and Isuzu passenger bus along the national highway in Lumbo, Valencia City, Bukidnon Wednesday, March 27.

Bus passenger Lucita Bayon-on did not get to the hospital alive while 19 other passengers were injured and brought to the hospital for treatment.

Police identified the injured as Salac Valentin Jr. (driver) and passengers Amelia Lora, Mayra Luz Batellione, Yuan Rey Cortez, Angelyn Pacamalan, Ella Mae Pacalan, Strelita Cortez, Cherry Mae Bernadeth Ortez, Alexander Maurice Utob, Marry Grace Rambuyon, Maryjean Morcilla, Mary Joy Morcilla, Jessa Mae Morcilla, Marjone Montejo, Junel Absede, Jenefer Absede, Prince Jared Absede, Anie Absede, Juliet Rabaca and Jerson Rabaca.

Initial investigation disclosed that the truck, driven by Police Staff Sergeant (PSSg) Erwin Galilea crashed head on with the bus driven by Valentin, causing the latter to fall into a ravine around 2:00 p.m.

Authorities said the road was slippery, which may have caused the head-on collision.

The other policemen on board the truck were identified as Police Corporal (Pcpl) Valentino Duculan, Police Master Sergeant Archie Tuba, PCpl Katzteffen Silverio, all assigned at Kalilangan town police; and PSSg Elizar Lacuste assigned at Pangantucan town police.

They have all been brought to the Adventist Medical Center.

Investigators are still looking into the case to determine criminal liability.
