5 vie for Oro mayor, 2 for vice mayor

FIVE candidates will compete for the top post in Cagayan de Oro City while only two candidates will vie for the vice mayoral post.

Candidates from the two biggest political parties in Cagayan de Oro filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) on Wednesday, October 17, the last day of the filing of COCs.

The candidates for mayor are Benjamin Tiu Contreras, Felix Borres, Lourdes Candy Darimbang, incumbent mayor Oscar Moreno, and Jose Gabriel "Pompee" La Viña, who was the last to file his COC.

For the vice mayoralty race, incumbent vice mayor Rainier Joaquin Uy and former mayor Vincente "Dongkoy" Emano both filed their COCs Wednesday.

There are three congressional candidates for the 1st District, namely, Rolando "Klarex" Uy of the PDP-Laban, Gil Banaag of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, and former vice mayor Ian Acenas, who is being fielded by the coalition of Padayon Pilipino and Centrist Democratic Party.

For the second district, PDP-Laban fielded Liga ng mga Barangay chairman Alam Lim as their congressional candidate while Rufus Rodriguez will try again his luck under the Padayon-CDP coalition.
