500 city workers get housing units

OVER 500 City Hall employees will finally get their own housing units after the Cagayan de Oro City Government partnered with real estate developers and government housing agencies to embark another housing program.

Engineer Ermin Pimentel, head of the City Housing and Urban Development (CHUDD) said the project will stand in a 10-hectare township development in Barangay Lumbia.

Lawyer Christopher Lloyd Lao, commissioner and chief executive officer of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB), said the township will be developed by Cebu Landmasters and Shang Robinsons Properties.

Each housing unit will stand in a 100 square meter area, and has a floor area of 33 square meter. Its market value will is pegged at P1.3 million.

Lao said the program is designed for the Pag-Ibig housing loan which will be availed by the city hall employees.

He said it is a fact that even government employees are still renting and don’t own a space.

Mayor Oscar Moreno said this project will empower the employees. He said this might only be a small one, but a start of something bigger to address the housing backlog of the city.

Last month, the same partnership also made a separate housing project for some 960 informal settler families.
