Another signal jam during fiesta celebration

PJ Orias

THE public shall expect more signal interruption in the coming days as part of the security measures of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo).

During the Carnival Street Dance Competition on Sunday, August 25, the public received a message from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) about the signal jam at about 12 noon, 3 hours ahead of its implementation.

In an earlier interview, Cocpo chief Police Colonel Henry Dampal said, a temporary shutdown of mobile network services from all telecommunication companies has been proven as an effective security measure in the past fiesta celebration.

Signal jam is expected in two major fiesta events: Higalaay Street Parade and Floats on Tuesday, August 27, and Religious Procession and Fluvial Procession on Wednesday, August 28.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno, meanwhile, appealed for understanding and urged the public to follow the rules set by police.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
