A FORMER female medic of the New People's Army (NPA), who suffered from brain tumor, died after a heart and brain failure.

The army's 58th Infantry Battalion has facilitated the burial of Jovelyn Lid-awon alias KC, who died from heart and brain failure.

In a statement, the military said the former communist rebel was brought to Camp Evangelista Station Hospital after the communist barangay organization and its underground mass organization surrendered to the Community Support Team of the 58th IB.

Lid-awon was transferred to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center for surgery. But, it was found out that the tumor has already affected more than half of her brain exerting pressure and burst several blood vessels which resulted to bleeding.

The military said the social welfare department in Northern Mindanao and the Misamis Oriental Care System (MisOr Cares) gave cash and food assistance to the family to defray the expenses during her confinement.

"58IB, Philippine Army and PLGU MisOr have done its utmost to help KC. It is unfortunate that her condition had already worsened when we intervened. The government is helping this poor and exploited people of Barangay Eureka. We will coordinate with the proper government agency to bring intervention to this area," said 58IB commander Lieutenant Colonel Roy Anthony Derilo.

"We call the youth to resist the deception of the NPAs and the families to be vigilant of the communist terrorist groups exploitation," he added.
