CAGAYAN de Oro City has recorded a total of 2,319 cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) for May 2021 alone.

These are two to three times higher than the October 2020 case count, which was 863 cases, when the Covid-19 epidemic in the city reached its first peak.

According to city epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya, most of the recorded Covid-19 cases are local transmissions.

"Hopefully, dili sya molapaw ang atong Hunyo but the way we are going, dako ang posibilidad nga molapaw pud ang atong kaso sa Hunyo o motupong sa atong kaso sa Mayo 2021," Retuya said.

During the first six days of June 2021, Cagayan de Oro recoded 539 cases.

"Hapit na ta motupong sa atoang first peak atong October. So definitely, lantaw nato ani molabaw pagyud ta ngadto sa atoang October 2020 na peak," Retuya said.

On June 5 and 6, the City Health Office logged 283 new cases, of which 174 are local index cases, 79 are local cases with link, 15 are local authorized persons outside residence (Apors), five local Apors with link, and 10 deaths.

The total number of Covid-19 infections in the city is now at 8,037.
