THE police officer who was arrested and charged with robbery extortion was out on bail after staying overnight at the city jail on Wednesday, June 19.

Police Captain Rogie Ortencio, Police Station 1 chief, said Patrolwoman Sheryl Lou Licayan was released the day after she was committed to the city jail.

Ortencio said the P100,000 bail may have been reduced after she signed a surety bond. But he said surety bond cannot be redeemed.

"Ang surety bond is gamay-gamay pero dili na niya makuha bisan pa ma-dismiss ang kaso. Wala mi kabalo pila ang ilang nahangyo (surety bonds are small amounts, but it won't be refunded even if the case is dismissed. I don't know how much they asked for the reduction of amount)," Ortencio said.

The City Prosecutor's Office has found probable cause to charge Licayan with robbery extortion in its resolution released last Friday, June 14.

Licayan was arrested by her fellow law enforcers after she allegedly asked P3,000 from a non-uniformed personnel applicant in exchange for the assurance of the job in the regional headquarters.

Ortencio said Licayan may soon face an administrative case and will likely report to the holding unit of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office.
