Cogon Market to get a makeover

PJ Orias

THE Cagayan de Oro City Council is allocating about P17 million for the total rehabilitation of Cogon Market.

Sourced from the General Fund, the allocation will be utilized for the construction of Cogon Market Kiosk which is pegged at P780,200, renovation of the Cogon Market Administration Office at P2,299,000, including the market open space along Osmeña St., Vicente Roa St., as well as the 2nd floor area with a total budget of P1,845,800.

The rehabilitation of the market's drainage system will also continue, this time, along the perimeter of Cogon Public Market, especially at Osmena, Yacapin, and Capt. Vicente Roa Sts., and at the interior of the market and its canopy with a budget of P12,075,000.

Not only will the Cogon Market get a face lift, the City Economic Enterprises Department (CEED) will also renovate the Puerto Market.

Mayor Oscar Moreno last week approved the final design of the market. The rehabilitation of the Puerto Market has long been desired by the people of Puerto and also nearby barangays, Nacaya said.

He said the construction will start before the year ends.

The City Government's intention to overhaul all city's public markets is aimed at making these markets competitive with big malls and make them not only a market of goods and services but also as facilities where customers can enjoy shopping and buying grocery items.
