THE City Council of Cagayan de Oro on Monday, March 9, has approved the recommendation to temporarily cancel the use of biometrics as a requirement for attendance of the employees in the city hall.

This is to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), in which the Philippines has a total of 33 confirmed cases.

In the meantime, employees will have to write their names in the log books provided in each offices.

“Recommending man so there is an option between the implementation nga pwede nya ipa-implementar, pwede man pud dili kay since ang thought sa resolution is recommendatory,” City Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin “Kikang” Uy said.

(There is an option between the implementing it or not since the resolution is recommendatory.)

Starting last Monday, city hall employees, clients and guests were required to have their body temperature checked using the temperature scanners as the City Government heightened its monitoring following the continued increase in the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases and the emergence of the localized transmission of the virus.

According to City Councilor Jay Roa Pascual, who is the proponent of the resolution, the recommendation to temporarily suspend the use of biometrics in the City Hall is one of the City Government’s strategies against Covid-19.

“Para lang na siya nga (It is only a) precautionary measure. It doesn’t mean nga naa dinhi ang virus (the virus is here) but is just one of the strategies,” Pascual said.

The City Vice Mayor also lauded the creation of the resolution.

“Kini angayan gyud, okay lang man gyapon nga mo-act ta kaysa non acting at all. Mas maayo lang pud kay usa pud na nga makatakod ang bahin anang contagious nga disease,” Uy said.
