Dengue cases in Cagayan de Oro up by 111%

DENGUE cases in Cagayan de Oro City have increased by 111 percent from January to July this year compared to the same period in 2021, the city's health office reported.

According to City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla, Cagayan de Oro has a total of 692 dengue cases from January to July 2022.

This is 111 percent higher compared to the dengue cases recorded in the same period in 2021, which is at 327 cases.

Of the 692 dengue cases, Barangay Carmen has the highest number of cases with 80 dengue cases. This was followed by Barangays Lumbia with 60 cases; Balulang with 59 cases; Lapasan with 47 cases; Patag with 41 cases; Kauswagan with 38 cases; Bulua with 37 cases; Bugo with 34 cases; Camaman-an with 33 cases; and Canitoan with 29 cases.

Meanwhile, from January to June, Cagayan de Oro recorded 10 deaths, three of which were in Barangay Lumbia. Barangays Gusa and Carmen have two cases of dengue deaths each, while Barangays Balubal, Gusa and Balulang have one each.

Dilla reminded the public to practice the 5S program of the Department of Health.

The 5S means "Search and Destroy" mosquito breeding sites, practice "Self-protection measures" such as wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts and daily use of mosquito repellent, "Seek early consultation," "Support spraying/fogging," and "Sustain hydration."
