Drug test for bus driver in fatal accident

PJ Orias

THE driver of the Rural Transit Bus Inc. who recently figured in an accident that left two persons dead will be required to undergo drug tests and a seminar on road safety.

This came after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in Northern Mindanao placed on preventive suspension the franchise of the bus following the deadly accident in Barangay Impalutao, Impasug-ong town, Bukidnon.

The 30-day preventive suspension order was issued on September 30, just two days after the accident, and will last until October 30.

LTFRB-Northern Mindanao Director Aminoden Guro said only two units of buses were under the suspended franchise.

Guro said the 30-day preventive suspension will allow the LTFRB to check the road-worthiness of the buses.

"All the claims of the victims must also be settled, and then that's the time the suspension will be lifted," he added.

Some 28 people were hurt in the accident, while two people were killed after the bus swerved due to the slippery road.
