AMID continuous Taal Volcano unrest, airlines have resumed flights and operations at the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental as of Tuesday, January 14.

Ariel Paderan, Laguindingan airport media officer, said only two flights were cancelled as of Tuesday morning per airline’s decision.

Paderan said he was not privy as to why the two flights were cancelled but added that all the delays and cancellations so far were due to the Taal Volcano eruption.

However, he said flight schedules may still change if the Taal volcanic activity escalates

On Sunday and Monday, nine Manila-bound flights from all airlines were cancelled due to the Taal Volcano activity. This after the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) also shut down its operations on Sunday but resumed partially by noon.

State volcanologists on Tuesday said Taal Volcano is not showing signs of slowing down days after it started spewing ash.

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) chief Renato Solidum said the ongoing ash eruptions continue to trigger volcanic earthquakes in the island and nearby areas.

The volcano remains under Alert Level 4, which means a “hazardous” eruption is “imminent” or may occur “within days to hours.”
