THE Cagayan de Oro City Government and the Misamis Oriental Provincial Government are among the 33 local government units who signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Department of Health (DOH) for the implementation of the universal health care (UHC) on Tuesday, December 17.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno and Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano joined the MOU signing in Manila for the health care integration sites.

Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental were earlier selected by the DOH as the pilot local government units for the rollout of the new health care system.

Moreno has committed a P2-billion budget for the city’s health services under the Universal Health Care law. He also plans to build four mega health centers in strategic locations of the city with the new program.

Emano has put on hold his flagship health care program, Misamis Oriental Cares System (MisOr Cares), after the province has been selected as one of the integration sites. The governor also allocated funds for health care services.

Cedric Lee, Vhong Navarro, and Deniece Cornejo.
