Lanao Sur mayor escapes ambush try

THE town mayor of Masiu, Lanao del Sur survived an ambush in Barangay Gata, Buadipuso Buntong town on Sunday, November 10.

His security escort and two civilian chaperones, however, were wounded.

Initial reports from the provincial police said an unknown number of gunmen with high-powered firearms strafed the convoy of mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr. at around 10 a.m. Sunday.

The mayor was travelling from Marawi City to Masiu to attend a peace and order council meeting.

The escort was identified as Police Staff Sergeant Jabbar Pangandaman, and the two civilians are Jamal Gabriel Pangandaman and Casanoding Mangandong

Pangandaman sustained a gunshot wound in the abdomen, while Gabriel had a wound on the right knee, and Mangandong was hit in the buttocks area.

They are in stable condition at Amai Pakpak Medical Center as of 2 p.m. Sunday.

Both the police and Philippine Army are investigating the incident. A manhunt has been launched against the perpetrators.
