PREVENTIVE measures against Covid-19 put in place by the City Government will remain in effect following the national Inter-Agency Task Force's (IATF) new announcement placing low-risk areas, earlier classified as under no quarantine measure, now under modified general community quarantine (GCQ).

"Generally, status quo. We will proceed cautiously as we open up," Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said, describing the modified GCQ as essentially still the same with the GCQ guidelines but with "loosening up."

Moreno said under the modified GCQ, the City Government will find ways to accommodate economic activities.

He said some gatherings, such as church masses, may now be allowed but with strict observance of social distancing and wearing of masks.

"Ang guiding principles should still be, we will not allow public health to be compromised. Sa mga misa, there will be some loosening up pero naa gihapon guidance," Moreno said.

Moreno said there will still be public transportation but will still be limited.

Prior to the IATF's announcement, Moreno said he sent a letter to Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, notifying him that the city will continue its preventive measures against Covid-19 when they announced Tuesday, May 12, that Northern Mindanao, including Cagayan de Oro, will no longer be under any quarantine measure.

"Pero sa new announcement, (it's) generally status quo," he said.

Moreno said they will release further guidelines under the modified GCQ.
