Most Covid-19 deaths in Oro involve senior citizens

Jo Ann Sablad

THE City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro reported that most of those who died from Covid-19 in the city are senior citizens.

City Epidemiologist Dr. Teodulfo Joselito Retuya Jr. said 1/3 of the total 949 cases of Covid-19 deaths from March 15, 2020 to August 19, 2022 were aged 60 and above.

Retuya added that this number is due to comorbidities or pre-existing diseases of senior citizens.

Several of these age groups have not also been vaccinated and some refused to be vaccinated.

City Health Officer Dr. Rachel Dilla urged the senior citizens who have not yet received their primary doses of Covid-19 vaccine to get vaccinated.

For those who have already received their first and second doses of the vaccine, Dilla encouraged them to get their boosters.
