Naawan town registers its first Covid-19 case

AN 80-YEAR-OLD male resident of Purok 7, Barangay Linangkayan, Naawan town, Misamis Oriental is the town's first coronavirus disease (Covid-19) case.

An official statement from the local Inter-Agency Task Force of Naawan said that the 80-year-old man has no history of travel abroad.

A reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test was conducted on Friday, July 10, and the result came out positive on Sunday, July 12.

The asymptomatic man was admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) on Sunday. The entire area of Purok 7, Barangay Linangkayan was placed under localized containment to prevent the spread of the virus. Contact tracing is also still ongoing.

NMMC medical specialist Dr. Bernard Rocha said the 80-year-old man is, at present, in a stable condition.

Naawan Municipal Health Officer Dr. Gwendelyn Labastilla reminded the public to practice the minimum health protocols such as handwashing, social/physical distancing and staying at home.
