CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno on Saturday, June 5, is pushing for the improvement of the testing capacity amid the continuous rise in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in the city.

"At the rate the cases are rising in Cagayan de Oro and in the region, we need more testing," Moreno said.

"Ang kinahanglan ayuhon nato pag structure ang atong testing capacity sa region," he added.

According to Moreno, while there are testing machines at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH), there are still occasional operational problems that they may not able to respond right away.

These operational problems, he added, are the manpower and reagents.

The city mayor further said the testing capacity may be enough for now but it may not be enough in the future.

"Kabalaka ko kung magsalig lang ta kung unsay moabot gikan sa DOH. We need to be prepared. Kung naa sa'y laing wave. Dili man mawala ning virus," Moreno said.

"Nag push gyud ko nga ato po'y i-improve [ang atong testing capacity]," he added.

As of 10 p.m. on June 4, Cagayan de Oro recorded 27 pending suspect cases and 95 new Covid-positive individuals.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus infections in the city is now at 7,754, with 1,466 active cases, 346 deaths, and 5,942 recoveries.
