Oro turns over facility to XU agriculture college

THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro, through its Agricultural Productivity Office (APO), has turned over a Board-Stud Artificial Insemination facility to the College of Agriculture of Xavier University in Manresa Farm, Upper Balulang, this city.

Through the P1.12-million artificial insemination facility, APO head Dr. Hector San Juan said that breeding swines will be easier for swine producers.

Artificial insemination (AI) of swine is widely practiced in countries with intensive pig production. The outcome of the AI largely depends on the semen quality and the insemination procedure.

City Mayor Oscar Moreno, who was present during the turn over of the AI facility, said he was happy and grateful for the initiative of APO to provide assistance to swine producers and to Xavier University for the continuous support to the city's projects.

"Akong nakita nga daghan pa diay kaayo mga pamaagi to reach out the community. This is a breakthrough," Moreno said.

Maria Rosario Mosqueda, the dean of the College of Agriculture of Xavier University, for her part, expressed her gratitude to the City Government, particularly the APO, saying that apart from the producers and the community, the AI facility will also be beneficial to their agriculture students.

THREAT. According to a Capitol consultant, the Cebu City Government is threatening to shut down the Cebu North Bus Terminal at the back of SM City Cebu (left) and the Cebu South Bus Terminal along N. Bacalso Ave. for operating without a business permit. The Province, which runs both terminals, maintains that it operates the facilities as a public service for passengers going to the province and vice versa. /
