A TOTAL of 1,688 canned goods were pulled out and confiscated from a grocery store in Cogon by the Cagayan de Oro City Veterinary Office on Thursday, July 2.

Of the 1,688, 1,496 are pork and bean canned goods, 129 are cans of meat loaf, and 63 are cans of sausage.

The confiscated canned goods, according to the City Veterinary Office, are worth P45,941.35.

City Veterinarian Dr. Lucien Anthony Acac said the shipment of these canned goods arrived on May 2 and June 7, which are already covered by the pork ban.

On September 27, 2019, Mayor Oscar Moreno issued Executive Order 172, which prohibits the entry of hogs, all fresh/frozen pork meat, and processed pork products from Luzon, Davao, and other identified African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected areas in the country and abroad.

All of the confiscated canned goods were manufactured in Manila.

Acac assured that the monitoring and inspection in establishments will continue to prevent the entry of ASF in Cagayan de Oro.

The City Veterinary Office is also reminding grocery owners to be aware of the existing rules and regulations on the selling of pork products.

Likewise, the public is advised to be cautious in buying meat products.
