THE top official of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Office (MisOr-PPO) has reported that around six personalities have been arrested for violation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Provincial police director Colonel Rolando Destura said the violators were nabbed during checkpoints and other police operations.

Destura said the charges against these violators have already been filed in court.

“More or less six na ang arrested sa gun ban and patuloy ang ating mga Comelec checkpoints,” Destura said.

(More or less there are already six individuals arrested because of gun ban violation, and we continue to do so in our Comelec checkpoints)

Around 128 firearms were voluntarily surrendered by gun owners in the province for failure to renew their licenses and registration.

This is through the police’s Oplan Katok where policemen knock on the doors of gun holders with delinquent registration and convince them to renew their licenses or surrender their guns to the nearest police station for safekeeping.

“For safekeeping ito para ma-avoid na magamit sa election ang baril sa commission on crime,” Destura said.

Destura assured that the firearms will be returned once gun owners have renewed the necessary documents.

Destura also maintained that there have been private armies in Misamis Oriental.
