A NORTHERN Mindanao Police official on Thursday, June 13, 2019, said Patrolwoman Sheryl Lou Licayan, who was arrested for allegedly extorting money from a Non-Uniformed Personnel (NUP) applicant, is not, in any way, connected with the recruitment or employment process in the regional headquarters.

"It's all fraud and deceit,"Lieutenant Colonel Surki Serenas, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), said.

PRO-Northern Mindanao Director Rafael Santiago said the regional command will not tolerate misdeed.

"We have not lowered our guard against rogue cops. We will continue our campaign until we have cleansed our rank of unfits and undesires (sic)," Santiago said.

Licayan was arrested in an entrapment operation on Tuesday, after she allegedly asked P3,000 from an NUP applicant in exchange for assurance of the job.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Mardy Hortillosa II, spokesperson of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said the suspect will face robbery extortion charges.

He said the cases that will be filed are bailable offense.

Hortillosa said the suspect may still be able to required to report under the holding unit of Cocpo. Her issued firearm will, however, be confiscated.

"She is still presumed innocent. Kung maka-pyansa siya makabalik siya sa serbisyo magsweldo siya. Dili pwede kuhaan siya sa katungod without sa judgement pa sa korte," he said.

(She is still presumed innocent. If she can post bail, she can return to work. We cannot deprive her of her right while the court has not resolved her case.)

Aside from the criminal charges, Licayan will likely face administrative cases soon.
