POLICE have arrested a construction worker for robbery extortion in Iligan City over the weekend.

The suspect was identified as Sonny Boy Balungcas, 29, resident of barangay Ubaldo, Iligan City.

Investigators said the suspect was under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly extorted money from anyone who passed by.

Two victims reported the incident to the police after the suspect asked money from them.

One of the victims, a 55-year-old technician, said he was stopped by the suspect while he was on board his motorcycle. He said he felt threatened when the suspect was grabbing something from his pocket forcing him to give in to the demands of the suspect.

The same “modus” was experienced by another victim, a 20-year-old construction worker, when he was riding his bicycle.

Police also said the suspect was included in the drug list of the police’s Directorate for Intelligence (DI) under the name “Sanny Boy.”

The suspect was immediately arrested after police responded in the area.

Balungcas is now detained and will likely face robbery charges.
